USPS announced a temporary increase in the shipping rates for 2021 festive season

USPS, the United State’s national postal service provider, has announced a temporary hike in its shipping rates that will be in effect from October 3, 2021. This seasonal adjustment in the shipping prices is designed to address the increase in the handling costs associated with the holiday shipping activity and is in accordance with the competitors’ practices.

Which USPS shipping services will get impacted?

An increase in the USPS peak shipping rate will have a significant impact on various specific USPS shipping services such as -

  • Priority Mail Express®
  • Priority Mail®
  • First-Class® Package Service
  • Parcel Select
  • Parcel Return Service, and
  • USPS Retail Ground

The price for First-Class Package Service has been increased by $0.30 for all weights across all the zones for both retail and commercial parcels.

Below is the change in the prices for Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, Parcel Select Ground, and USPS Retail Ground:

  • $0.75 increase for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express Flat Rate Boxes and Envelopes
  • $0.25 increase for Zones 1-4, 0-10 lbs
  • $0.75 increase for Zones 5-9, 0-10 lbs
  • $1.50 increase for Zones 1-4, 11-20 lbs
  • $3.00 increase for Zones 5-9, 11-20lbs
  • $2.50 increase for Zones 1-4, 21-70 lbs
  • $5.00 increase for Zones 5-9, 21-70 lbs

This temporary hike in the shipping prices will keep USPS competitive and help the agency with the revenue to cover extra costs due to peak-season volume surges.

Note: The USPS holiday shipping rate hike will only impact the domestic shipping products, and the international shipping rates will remain unchanged.
